Improving Mental Health in Gujarat, India
A National Mental Health Survey published by the government of India in 2015-16 demonstrated a “huge burden of mental health problems” with a substantial level of unmet mental health need.
Funding has been awarded to support a partnership between Mental Health Ireland, Hospital for Mental Health, and Office for Mental Health, Government of Gujarat. This partnership aims to significantly contribute to the improvement of mental health and social outcomes in the Ahmedabad region by supporting greater access to evidence based and cost effective mental health service interventions. The work undertaken will be based on a capacity building approach and will directly strengthen and expand the capabilities of existing Gujarat state institutions and personnel in their development of expert mental and social care infrastructure.
